Many people question their own gender identity. One person recently shared their personal story online. They identify as a nonbinary transgender man. This has been true for over ten years now.

However, their experience is quite complex. They have not come out to others. They do not experience gender dysphoria. Dysphoria means discomfort with your body or assigned gender. This person actually feels comfortable in their body.

They also enjoy wearing feminine clothes. Whenever possible, they dress in a feminine style. To most people, they appear as a cisgender woman. A cisgender woman was born female and identifies as a woman.

This raises a crucial question. Must you look a certain way to be transgender? Many experts say no. Gender identity is deeply personal. It exists within you. It has nothing to do with clothing or appearance.

The LGBTQ+ community shows tremendous diversity. Not all transgender people experience dysphoria. Not all want to change their body. Some feel at peace with their body but identify differently.

Nonbinary is also a completely valid identity. Nonbinary people do not identify purely as male or female. Some nonbinary people also identify partly as male or female. This is called being both nonbinary and transgender.

Being closeted is fairly common too. Many LGBTQ+ people have not come out to everyone. Many reasons exist for this choice. Safety concerns, family, and workplace are common reasons. Being closeted does not make someone less transgender.

This person's experience teaches something vital. There is no single correct way to be transgender. No test exists that you must pass. You need not dress a certain way. You need not feel dysphoria. You need not be out to others.

Your identity is absolutely valid. It belongs entirely to you. Only you can define who you are. This is what many in the LGBTQ+ community wish to share.
