Berlin is creating a special place for LGBTQ+ people. Schwulenberatung Berlin is organising an opening ceremony on 17 May 2026. The ceremony begins at 11 am.

A new burial and memorial site opens officially that day. This place serves lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. The abbreviation is LSBTI.

Schwulenberatung Berlin is a well-known organisation in Germany. They help the LGBTQ+ community in Berlin for many years. Now they want to offer a dignified final resting place.

A special cemetery for LGBTQ+ people matters greatly. Not all queer people feel welcome at ordinary cemeteries. Sometimes they face misunderstanding or disrespect. Their own place provides dignity and recognition.

The memorial site also honours those who died before. Family and friends can remember their loved ones there. It will be a safe and respectful environment.

The date 17 May was chosen deliberately. The world celebrates International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia that day. People call it IDAHOT. It marks discrimination against LGBTQ+ people.

Berlin is known as an open and tolerant city. The city has a large and visible LGBTQ+ community. Yet an official memorial site is new and remarkable.

The opening welcomes everyone. Community members, friends and family are invited. It promises to be a dignified and meaningful ceremony.

More information about location and programme is available from Schwulenberatung Berlin. They are ready to answer all questions.
