The COC, the world's oldest gay rights organisation, is celebrating its milestone this year. The advocacy group reflects on achievements while recognising what still needs to happen. Chairman Jowee Graafland sees significant work ahead.

'Netherlands has made progress, but we can do more,' Graafland says. 'Look at other countries advancing faster on acceptance and equal rights. We must not settle for what we've achieved.' The COC has worked since 1946 for rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people. A long journey with many victories, yet many challenges remain.

The organisation believes it is time to lead again. Workplace discrimination, street violence and unequal treatment in marriage and inheritance law still occur. 'We've achieved much in Netherlands, but that does not mean we are finished,' Graafland states. 'We must remain active.'

The COC calls people to join this fight. Whether gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, or simply supporting others' equality: your voice matters. Netherlands need not fall behind, the organisation believes. With shared commitment, the country can achieve further progress on equal rights and acceptance.
