COC wants Netherlands to lead LGBTQ+ rights again
The COC wants Netherlands to become a leader in LGBTQ+ rights. Other countries now surpass us on important issues.
The COC celebrates an anniversary and makes a clear statement. Netherlands was once a trailblazer in LGBTQ+ rights. But that role is slowly fading away. They want to change this.
Nearly two decades have passed since Netherlands allowed same-sex marriage. Many countries have since followed our example. But looking at current global developments, Netherlands no longer leads. Other countries now surpass us on equal rights and gender identity recognition.
The COC calls for new policies that position Netherlands as progressive. They want more support for transgender persons. Better protection against discrimination matters too. More inclusivity in schools and workplaces is essential. These are not radical changes. Rather, they build a more inclusive society step by step.
Notably: the COC does not only address its own community. It calls on everyone to see this as a shared responsibility. Netherlands has always taken pride in its openness. Reclaiming that reputation requires more effort than before.
