Netherlands ranks 13th on Europe's important LGBTQI+ human rights ranking. This measures LGBTQI+ rights protection across European countries. The Netherlands has neither risen nor fallen compared to last year.

ILGA-Europe produces this ranking annually. The organisation advocates for LGBTQI+ rights across Europe. They assess laws and regulations in different countries. They also evaluate how effectively countries protect LGBTQI+ people.

Netherlands scores reasonably well on several measures. Anti-discrimination laws protect LGBTQI+ individuals effectively. Same-sex marriage is legal for everyone here. Our country established this right relatively early.

However, some areas need significant improvement. Netherlands loses points on violence protection measures. LGBTQI+ people frequently experience violence and harassment still. Critics say government action remains insufficient here.

COC Netherlands is dissatisfied with the 13th place ranking. COC represents the largest LGBTQI+ organisation nationally. They believe Netherlands should rank considerably higher. Our country was once a global leader here. That position has weakened considerably now.

Countries like Malta, Belgium and Iceland rank higher overall. They perform better on LGBTQI+ rights and protections. Netherlands can learn from these countries, COC argues.

COC urges the Dutch government to take action. They demand better protection for transgender people specifically. They want increased government funding for LGBTQI+ policies too. Furthermore, street safety must receive greater attention.

This ranking demonstrates significant work remains ahead. Even advanced countries like Netherlands face challenges. LGBTQI+ equality is not yet taken for granted. This must change, COC Netherlands insists.
